SAWS: Don’t Violate the Open Meetings Act

Keep those “Flush Vista Ridge” petition signatures coming in – we’re lovin’ those comments too. Screen Shot 2016-04-10 at 9.36.25 AM(If you haven’t signed yet, click here and do it!).

Here’s why your taking action is so important.

San Antonio Water System (SAWS) called a special meeting for tomorrow at 9 am, which is certainly their right to do. What they don’t have a right to do is violate the Texas Open Meetings Act (TOMA).

A few hours ago, this letter from Save Our Springs Alliance and the League of Independent Voters was sent to the SAWS board (copied to their bosses — the San Antonio City Council). The letter lays out why SAWS did not give the proper 72 hours notice to the public as required by TOMA. Only one of their agenda items, Item 6, had no ‘back up’ (a detailed description) until 24 hours after the deadline. Guess what Item 6 is about? Changing control of Vista Ridge – no minor issue.

Again, sign the petition right here. We’re going to share with you soon some ideas we have about how we’re going to use it and will be asking for your feedback.

Able to donate? Keep it coming! Nothing is too small.

We’re watching you SAWS — literally — watch tomorrow’s meeting online right here.

Hopefuly, SAWS will be smart enough to reschedule this meeting, so you won’t see anything! 🙂

PS Our friend, David Simpson is in the runoff for Senate District 1 and needs your help. Call him to lend a hand at 903-371-0963. Reminder: Simpson led our water battles in last session.

PPS We just endorsed Susan King in the Senate District 24 runoff. Please share this!
