Collateral Damage of Prop 1: Renters, homeowners and local business. Vote NO!

Have you seen the raging debate (a good one) about Prop 1 on screen-shot-2016-11-02-at-5-09-51-pmChangeAustin.org’s Facebook page? Join the discussion – it’s not boring, promise!

If you ask the big donors who put up $1 million to promote Prop 1 — the Austin Chamber, the Real Estate Council, Heritage Title (Gary Farmer) etc. — what has brought about Austin’s traffic woes, they will blame anyone but themselves.

But while the Chamber’s Opportunity Austin was using city funds to woo more people to move to Austin by paying magazines to rank Austin as one of the best places to live, “their” City Council never asked them to pay a dime in road impact fees. The resulting loss of 100s of millions of dollars over the last decade was happening just as Austin took it’s nosedive into its affordability crisis.

In 2015, Mayor Adler and the new 10-1 Council failed to impose road impact fees on new developments, a loss of somewhere between $50-90 million for roads.

Now Adler — together with his big real estate friends want YOU – renters and homeowners alike – to bear the full weight of a seriously flawed and hugely expensive ($720 million, in reality $1.799 billion) bond combining all project spending into one and only one bucket. If it harms local businesses along the corridors slated for “beautification” under Prop 1, to these guys they’re just collateral damage.

Vote NO and send your message to City Hall. Ask the Council — just as City Councilwoman Ora Houston has asked — to open up this process over the next 18 months and come back with a better, more affordable plan that would allow you to vote on several items separately.

Still undecided? Read more beefs with the bonds.

Vote NO on Prop 1! Adler is Scaring the Crap Out of Us!

Adler Scaring the Crap out of Austin! We have heard far too many rumors not to share this with you. Austin Mayor Steve Adler and his henchmen are running about Austin trying to contain the damage they have only done to themselves by scaring people. Perhaps it was those repeated articles in the Statesman by transportation writer Ben Wear, duly warning Austin voters about the inadequacies of this purported $720 million (in reality, $1.7999 billion) bond proposition. In our view, Wear is just doing his job and likely going light on the soft-spoken, but nevertheless bullying ways of Steve Adler.

Thankfully, Austin has Roger Falk, running about too — trying to alert unsuspecting small business owners targeted for “beautification” along the proposed “corridors” that Prop 1 intends to “beautify” them right out of business. Special Thanks to Honest Transportation Solutions PAC for running this funny — because it’s oh-so-true! — TV ad.

Adler and his team are on notice, Austin is NOT Developers’ Monopoly Board or just one big real estate play!

In addition to Wear’s articles, you can read this helpful analysis of Prop 1 from Rob Walker, MBA Stanford in Finance; PhD University of Texas in Taxation and this top notch editorial by Councilwoman Ora Houston.

By the way, perhaps you read that the judge struck down the Pilot Knob development deal…but the developer-whistleblower Brian

Rodgers has only just begun to fight! The Mayor and his henchmen are the ones who really should be scared.
