If you think local elections don’t affect you, please think again.

Many cities across Texas are having local elections on May 3.

The City of Bastrop has been in turmoil for the last 18 months. It started with a "fake recall" by 3 of the 5 sitting Council members who wanted the Mayor out of the way.

Apparently, no one told these foolish City Council Members that recall petitions are for citizens, not members of an elected body to knife those on the same dais they disagree with.

Exactly what their disagreements were with Mayor Lyle Nelson took time to unravel.

It's all about open government and development.

The League of Independent Voters of Texas (LIV) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership association for independent voters, not a party. Over the last year, LIV has written extensively about the local political mess in Bastrop.

LIV developed a survey for this year's city election to educate voters while genuinely asking for their opinions and ideas.

Check out and, if you live in Bastrop, take the survey. And reach out to us to get involved. Call us at 512.697.8809 or email us at info@indytexans.org. Thank you!
